Enkidu, the sole companion of Gilgamesh, emerged from a clod of earth sculpted by the divine hands of Anu, the king of gods, and Aruru, the goddess of creation. Neither wholly male nor female, Enkidu was a creature molded from mud, descending upon the earth to awaken amidst the untamed wilderness. Their eyes opened to a world vast and towering, stirred by a voice calling from afar, unfamiliar yet not of parental origin. Though bestowed with formidable strength, Enkidu lacked a soul, a gift beyond the capacity of their divine parents. Initially devoid of intellect, their existence was one of instinctual roaming alongside wild beasts. Tasked with restraining Gilgamesh, the keystone destined to defy divine will, Enkidu’s purpose remained unfulfilled, constrained by their lack of human will. In the wilderness, Enkidu found solace in freedom, neither burdened by perfection nor tainted by flaws. Occasionally, they would pause to gaze upon the distant city, drawn by the elusive voice that echoed beyond the confines of the wild, a call neither maternal nor paternal in nature.
“Fate/strange Fake” is an ongoing light novel series crafted by Ryohgo Narita, initiated in 2015 and brought to life with illustrations by Shidzuki Morii. It delves into the expanded universe originating from an April Fool’s prank Narita shared on his website in 2008, later adapted into a short story featured in the TYPE-MOON Ace Volume 2 magazine in 2009. Set approximately in 2009, the narrative revolves around a Grail War, a flawed replication of the Third Holy Grail War in Fuyuki. Following the conclusion of the third Grail War, a faction based in the United States, distinct from the London-based Mage Association, extracted data from the Fuyuki Grail War to orchestrate their own ritual. After a span of seventy years, they designated the city of Snowfield as the Sacred Land for their version of the Grail War. However, their replication was imperfect, resulting in an imitation lacking the Saber class and permitting the summoning of unconventional Servants due to the ambiguous definition of “hero.” The Mage’s Association dispatches Rohngall and his apprentice, Faldeus, to investigate the city and assess the status of the conflict. Despite Rohngall merely serving as a puppet, Faldeus, a spy from the US faction, orders his assassination upon arrival, asserting the reality of their Holy Grail War project. This revelation sparks chaos within the Clock Tower, as Faldeus aims to publicize the endeavor to the Association.
